Meet Siddig, an asylum seeker from Sudan who is studying English at Henry Street:

Please help us meet an urgent need in our community

In the last 18 months, over 200,000 new migrants arrived in New York City, over 65,000 of whom are currently staying in city-sponsored shelters.

A huge and increasing number of recent arrivals are refugees and asylum seekers, landing in New York with no family or community to embrace and support them after long, traumatic, necessary journeys to save their lives and the lives of their families.

These new New Yorkers often lack vital support like food and housing, and they face continued risks to their bodily health and safety as long as these needs remain unmet.
